Temporary protection holders who expressed interest in April can now see the assessment result on the portal. Those who meet the conditions must register by the end of the year.

Special long-term residence: registration is open until 31 December 2026

Since 1 October 2026 the Ministry of the Interior has published, on the Information Portal for Foreigners (ipc.gov.cz), the results of its assessment for special long-term residence (zvláštní dlouhodobý pobyt). This concerns people with temporary protection who expressed interest in April 2026. Anyone who meets the conditions, or whose whole jointly registered household meets them, can register until 31 December 2026.

Special long-term residence is valid for 5 years (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7o(2)). Among other things, the ministry checks at least 2 years of continuous stay on temporary protection, health insurance with no arrears, annual income at the level set by government regulation, a registered address and children's school attendance (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7q(1)). Registration is electronic only, using bank identity (bankovní identita) or another electronic ID (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7s(1)). There is no legal entitlement to this residence (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7o(3)).

What it means for you

  • Log in to your account at ipc.gov.cz. Next to each condition you will see whether you met it.
  • After registering you will receive an e-mail with the date and address of the office where your biometrics will be taken (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7s(3)). Choose the date carefully: according to the ministry, it can be changed only once.
  • Bring your passport and documents proving family ties, and pay the administrative fee for a residence permit card (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7t(2)). An officially certified translation is not required (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7t(4)).
  • Think the data are wrong? Contact the authority that supplied them directly, for example your health insurer or tax office (Act No. 65/2022 Coll., Section 7s(4)).
  • Brno: the KACPU office is closed from 7 October and reopens on 12 October at a new address, Tuřanka 1554/115b.
