Petrol and diesel in October 2026: the state sets maximum prices again
From 1 to 31 October 2026 filling stations must keep to maximum prices for petrol and diesel. Where to find them and whom to tell about overcharging.

On 21 September 2026 the government approved Regulation No. 172/2026 Coll. From 1 to 31 October 2026, filling stations may not sell 95 petrol (E5, E10) or B7 diesel above the maximum price. If a station does not sell the standard fuel, the cap applies to its cheapest premium variant.
The maximum price is calculated every working day from wholesale prices plus a margin of CZK 2.50 per litre, plus 21% VAT (Government Regulation No. 172/2026 Coll., Section 2). The Ministry of Finance publishes it in the Price Bulletin (Cenový věstník) for the next day. At weekends and on public holidays the last working day's price applies. Premium fuels are not regulated.
What it means for you
- You fill up: find the day's maximum price in the Price Bulletin on the Ministry of Finance website. A station may not exceed it (Act No. 526/1990 Coll., Section 5(1)).
- The pump price is higher: photograph the price and keep your receipt. Price control is carried out by the Specialised Tax Office (Act No. 526/1990 Coll., Section 18c).
- You run a business with a car or van (trades, deliveries): in October you can budget lower fuel costs in your quotes. From 1 November 2026 the cap ends unless the government extends it.
